Hamisi Mwaguya has taken an early lead in the race for the Mombasa Senate seat, narrowly edging incumbent Senator Mohamed Faki in a new opinion poll conducted by Swiss Poll International.

According to the survey, Mwaguya garnered 27.2 percent support, translating to 1,435 votes, while Faki followed closely with 24.5 percent or 1,294 votes. The two are separated by 2.7 percentage points, setting up what could become a closely contested race ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The poll, released on July 27, sampled 5,284 respondents and has a margin of error of ±3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.

Mgeni Mboto Hassan placed third with 10.3 percent (544 votes), closely followed by Bernard William at 9.9 percent (525 votes), Victor Abayo at 9.5 percent (503 votes) and Ali Kubo at 9.3 percent (490 votes).

Charles Mghenyi received 3.9 percent (205 votes), while Ali Ganzala polled 2.4 percent (127 votes). Another 3.0 percent of respondents backed other candidates.

The survey offers an early snapshot of voter preferences in Mombasa as political realignments and campaign activities gradually gather pace ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the contest is expected to remain fluid as parties unveil their candidates and campaigns intensify.
