With just a week before the 28th of April deadline of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, Mombasa County government has intensified efforts to boost voter turnout, particularly among young people.
The county is leveraging Serikali Mitaani, deploying community-based officers across neighborhoods to guide residents on how and where to register.
Lands and Serikali Mitaani CEC Mohamed Hussein Amadoh urged residents to take advantage of the remaining days, emphasizing the power of the vote in shaping leadership.
“I urge Mombasa residents, especially the youth, to come out in large numbers and register as voters because your vote will be your decision and a way to choose the leadership you want.”
CEC Amadoh said the county will scale up mobilization efforts within the remaining period to ensure more residents are reached and facilitated.
“We have Serikali Mitaani officers on the ground who will guide you on how to register and where the registration centres are located.”
He also encouraged residents to engage the officers and seek clarification where necessary.
“When you see them, do not be afraid, ask any questions you may have so that you can successfully register as a voter.”
Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reports that more than 1.37 million Kenyans have registered as voters since the exercise began on March 30, 2026.
According to the Commission, 1,370,930 new voters had been registered as of April 16, an increase of 495,429 since April 9.
Additionally, 92,602 Kenyans have transferred their voting stations, while 1,969 others have updated their details.
In Mombasa County, 32,625 new voters have been registered during the period, with 4,731 residents transferring their votes and 89 updating their particulars.
During the launch of the exercise in Mombasa, IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu said the commission is targeting to increase the county’s voter register from 641,000 to one million.
To achieve this, she noted that 42 new voter registration centres have been established across the county to bring services closer to residents.
The Commission is also deploying mobile registration kits that will move from village to village, targeting high-traffic areas such as markets to improve accessibility.
With the deadline fast approaching, the electoral body has urged eligible Kenyans yet to register to do so.
“With just a few days remaining, the Commission calls upon all eligible Kenyans who are yet to register to take advantage of this opportunity and contribute to an inclusive and representative voter register,” the IEBC said.
The intensified push reflects broader efforts to increase voter participation ahead of the next general election cycle.
