The County Government of Mombasa, working jointly with the National Government, has launched a land survey exercise in Kwa Punda, Mikindani Ward, paving the way for the issuance of title deeds to about 1,000 households.

The initiative is aimed at formalising land ownership and addressing the challenge of informal settlements in Jomvu Constituency, one of the areas most affected by squatter-related disputes in Mombasa County.

Speaking to residents during the introduction of surveyors assigned to the exercise, Lands CECM Mohamed Hussein cautioned the community against allowing political interests to derail the process.

He noted that as political activity intensifies across the country, some individuals may attempt to exploit the exercise for their own agendas and urged residents to remain focused on securing land ownership documents.

Mohamed further called on residents to fully support the survey teams and preserve land earmarked for public facilities and infrastructure projects that will benefit the wider community.

Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has consistently advocated for the regularisation of land ownership in Mombasa, describing title deeds as a critical tool in ending decades of uncertainty faced by thousands of residents living in informal settlements.
